A bowling all-rounder who represents India in international cricket, Axar Patel is a perfect modern-day finger spinner who relies on his accuracy and the ability to utilize the width of the crease. Patel made his first-class and List A debut in 2012 for Gujarat, but he began to hit his stride only in the 2013-14 season. His domestic form opened the gates of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for him. In his second season in IPL, while playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), he began to grab national attention with his performances. This led to Patel earning his first international call-up. He made his international debut in an ODI series against Bangladesh in 2014. His impressive performances made the selectors stick with him for the 2015 ICC World Cup. Although the selectors decided to go with the more experienced Ravindra Jadeja for the 2017 Champions Trophy, poor performance from the team more or less cemented Patel's place in the limited-overs sides. He made his Test debut in 2021 against England. On his debut, he became the ninth Indian bowler to take a fifer. In the second Test, he became the first bowler to take 11 wickets in a day-night Test match.
